Hong Kong Garden

I know, I know; still no pics of ''my'' Marie Antoinette. I started to colour it and am now half way through, but I HATE how it looks! x'D Should I start over, or just continue with this one and see how it turnes out? What do you guys think??
Anyways, instead here's two tattoo-ish drawings I did of a peony flower and a random traditional Chinese girl. Hope you guys like them!

Here's another sketch I did after a tattoo by Helen Brown (drawing on the right). I changed the scarf. The original had a different, more elaborate scarf because it was part of a bigger tattoo (or so it seemed to be). The drawing on the left is just an exercise in ''cliché-traditional-swallows-with-banners''.

A. Beardsley Inspired

Here's two line-drawings I did, inspired by chapter headings drawn by Aubrey Beardsley for the 1892 publication of ''Le Morte d'Arthur'' (see second picture). Of course they can't be compared, seen as my drawings aren't as amazing as Aubrey's. ;) However, I think they turned out okay.

Roaring Twenties #2

Here's a drawing I did after a tattoo I found on the internet. Unfortunately I couldn't find the tattooist's name. I'd love to see more of his/her work, so if anyone knows who made this design, please let me know! ;)
The colours of the actual tattoo are much darker than the ones in my drawing, because skin's darker than white paper - obviously. The colours in my drawing are darker than in the pic by the way. I took the picture in our kitchen and the light there is really... pale.

Roaring Twenties #1

Hi everybody! I haven't published anything for about a month, sorry about that! I've been quite busy the last couple of weeks, so I haven't really had time to draw. However I did do a traditional tattoo inspired drawing of a ''roaring twenties'' girl. As you can see I tried to keep everything as bold and minimalistic as possible (well, the colours at least). I want the hair to stay white, but I still don't know what colour to give to the hair ornaments. I kind of like it this way, but it seems a bit too white. Like I forgot to colour it or something... Ideas? Opinions? Please let me know!

(P.S. I know the quality of the picture isn't too great, with the tile floor showing and all. Plus, you can hardly see her skin colour (light pink). When it's finished I'll make a better pic..!)

Oompa Loompa-ballerina

Here's a drawing I did recently for the Balletspiegel (Dutch for ''ballet mirror''). The Balletspiegel is a small magazine my ballet school (yes, I do classical ballet!) publishes every two months to keep their pupils (and the pupils' parents) up to date about what's going on at the school. Of course every magazine that's meant for children (among others) needs a colouring picture. In this case a picture of a ballerina obviously.
This year we'll perform our version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Everytime I do a colouring picture I try to stay with the subject of the upcoming performance and add as much detail as possible while maintaining bold black lines so that it's easy for my public (mostly 3 to 8 year olds ;)) to colour.





































This isn't my favourite, but it came out okay. The Oompa Loompas in our version wear Hawaiian skirts and a little bone in their hair so I used that in my drawing (that's probably why she kind of looks like Mrs. Flintstone). But as you may, or may not, see the hair was inspired by the hair of the Oompa Loompas in the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Started the colouring! The colours (and especially the shadows) look better in this light than in daylight though. We'll see how it works out. Still a lot of work to do!

Here's a line drawing I did, after a design by one of my favourite tattooists; Helen Brown. I'll start the colouring as soon as possible (using pastel pencils). Hopefully that'll lessen the somewhat creepy look she has in her eyes right now..!
