Judy Linn's seventies

This is the quite gorgeous photographer Robert Mapplethorpe photographed in the early seventies, by Judy Linn. Love the feeling of her black&white photographs from the seventies and early eighties.

Ahh f*ck...

So I was drawing a banner for an invitation card.. I was just finishing it with black fineliner (one that I always use) but then it started blotting all over by the slightest touch! Now I can draw the damn thing all over again! I'm sure it's because I used a different kind of paper than I normally do, because I didn't have my ''usual paper'' at hand. Thank god it's not a very big banner, so it won't take that long to draw it again. May post it on here when it's done.

Two other illustrations by Kay Nielsen

Is the right one on the second picture a man or a woman? I'm guessing a man, but who knows? Anyhow, isn't the detail amazing?! I could stare at his illustrations for hours.

Art Nouveau by Arthur Rackham

This is an illustration named ''O Waken, Waken, Burd Isbel'', made by Arthur Rackham in 1919. The girl looks so soft and delicate. I might copy this illustration sometime, or at least make my own interpretation of it.

Art Nouveau by Kay Nielsen

Here's a gorgeous Art Nouveau-inspired fairytale illustration by artist Kay Nielsen.

Traditional Beauty by René Carrère

Here's a painting of French actress Musidora (Jeanne Roques), by René Carrère. I love how the portrait is minimalistic and quite dark and mysterious, but at the same time very fascinating, feminine and kind of soothing.

Oompa Loompa-ballerina

Here's a drawing I did recently for the Balletspiegel (Dutch for ''ballet mirror''). The Balletspiegel is a small magazine my ballet school (yes, I do classical ballet!) publishes every two months to keep their pupils (and the pupils' parents) up to date about what's going on at the school. Of course every magazine that's meant for children (among others) needs a colouring picture. In this case a picture of a ballerina obviously.
This year we'll perform our version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Everytime I do a colouring picture I try to stay with the subject of the upcoming performance and add as much detail as possible while maintaining bold black lines so that it's easy for my public (mostly 3 to 8 year olds ;)) to colour.

This isn't my favourite, but it came out okay. The Oompa Loompas in our version wear Hawaiian skirts and a little bone in their hair so I used that in my drawing (that's probably why she kind of looks like Mrs. Flintstone). But as you may, or may not, see the hair was inspired by the hair of the Oompa Loompas in the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Velvet Victorian gown

Gorgeous late 19th century evening dress. God how I'd like to wear a dress like this some time.

Helen Brown copy II

Started the colouring! The colours (and especially the shadows) look better in this light than in daylight though. We'll see how it works out. Still a lot of work to do!
